925 Sterling Silver

For GEMLY & Co. it is important to traditionally use only precious metals such as silver and gold in the manufacture of jewelry. This is because precious metals differ from non-precious metals such as stainless steel, iron, brass and aluminum in their resistance to corrosion, which means that precious metals do not react with substances in their environment (such as water or air) at room temperature. Compared to iron, precious metals such as silver and gold do not oxidize or rust. Non-precious metals are used in the jewelry industry, especially in recent years, mainly because of their favorable value, since, for example, 361L stainless steel is traded at about 5 € the kilogram compared to 925 sterling silver 100 times, at about 500 € per kilogram. Thus, silver is more valuable than you can imagine. A little tip for you: Real precious metals do not react to magnets!

GEMLY & Co. uses only sustainable recycled 925 sterling silver. This is made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, a precious metal. Silver is a bright white and very high quality precious metal. It has the positive property that it does not oxidize with oxygen in the air. However, after a long period of time, it can "tarnish" and produce a thin black layer of silver sulfide as it is attacked by hydrogen sulfide in the air or the pH of the skin. This is a quality feature, however, and can of course be removed with our included jewelry care cloth. Likewise, the silver is well protected by the thick vermeil gold layer. All jewelry is stamped according to the fineness "S925" as well as with the GEMLY & Co. logo.
